The UCSF Breast Care Center, part of the UCSF Helen Diller Comprehensive Cancer Center, cares for patients with breast cancer and other breast health issues or concerns. We focus on screening for early breast cancer detection and on delivering more effective and less toxic therapies. We also conduct research that explores breast cancer's causes, biology and behavior, with the goal of developing even better prevention and treatment strategies.
Our team of surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, psychologists and nutritionists work together to thoroughly address all your concerns. You will also have access to many support services, from meditation groups to exercise classes.
After you complete your cancer treatment, your care team will refer you to the UCSF Breast Cancer Follow-up Program. You will receive regular breast checkups as well as screening tests and lab evaluations as needed. We also work to address quality-of-life issues that may arise after treatment, such as dealing with the symptoms of chemotherapy-induced menopause, taking hormonal drugs or halting hormone replacement therapy, sexual issues, mood or sleep disturbances, nutrition questions and general well-being.
The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center combines basic science, clinical research, epidemiology/cancer control and patient care from throughout the University of California, San Francisco system. UCSF's long tradition of excellence in cancer research includes the Nobel Prize-winning work of J. Michael Bishop and Harold Varmus, who discovered cancer-causing oncogenes.
We are proud to be designated a comprehensive cancer center by the National Cancer Institute, which is part of the National Institutes of Health. The “comprehensive” designation—NCI’s highest ranking—is awarded after a rigorous evaluation process which shows that the center pursues scientific excellence and has the capability to integrate diverse research approaches to cancer.
